This is a positive message. It really heartens me to hear it — it gives me hope that holding to high standards does lead to something good.

I’ve been in some long term relationships, but nothing ever works out. I try soooooooooooooooooo hard. It’s hard to trust God because I don’t want life to pass me by, but nothing else is working. Some help?

I think I know how you’re feeling, to some degree. I believe sometimes we think we’re trusting God, but really we’re trying to do it our own way and hoping God will make it work out rather than bringing our whole life in line with God–purifying our motives and methods in everything we do, including trying to find love with a lasting commitment.

I’d say one of the first things to do is to value yourself–you deserve the best, you deserve to be respected and you deserve to have someone who is committed to you–so don’t sell yourself short, don’t give your love freely simply in order to have a relationship. And think about the qualities of true manhood and true womanhood–qualities such as purity, honesty, unselfishness and commitment. These come from God and are natural to each of us. Look for them in yourself and others and expect them to be natural . Then listen for the still, small voice of divine Love to guide you. The Bible promises, “God gathers the solitary into families.”

You are dearly loved by God and it is natural for that love to be manifested in loving, committed relationships! Christine
