Get a behind-the-scenes look at all that is involved in the multilingual translation of documents. Gain experience with communicating with a worldwide network. Discover how spiritual sense guides through the completion of a project, offering insights on which parts of an original text need to be adjusted so that the same message comes across in other languages. Connect with multiple departments of The Mother Church, through the translation work done for them. Learn about the various activities going on throughout the Church and the Publishing Society. Be exposed to thinking globally about Christian Science. Develop your ability to apply Christian Science in a deadline-oriented setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Office of Language Services staff in all aspects of helping The Mother Church share its mission in a multilingual, multicultural context.
  • Help devise creative, organized methods of tracking and archiving projects.
  • Assist with the preparation and updating of language glossaries.
  • Format documents in various languages and proof for accuracy.
  • Collaborate with people in other departments to help determine how best to meet their requests for foreign language related services, including oral interpretation.

Desired qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of English and of at least one other language, and the understanding of nuance, context, and cultural overtones.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer and internet proficiency.
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy, professionalism, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Team skills.
  • Adaptability.
  • Good sense of organization.
  • Spiritual intuition and approach to problem solving.
  • Class instruction desired.

How long is the internship?

  • At least 8 weeks

When do I start?

  • Summer 2008
