I’m Nathan Sharp and I‘m working as an intern for my Bible Lesson this summer. I am from Toronto (that’s in Canada!), and so, of course, I love hockey. Currently I’m going to Principia College. I haven’t declared a major yet, but business, economics, and physics are some possibilities.
When I first heard about the TMC Youth internship program, I heard that there were no more positions available, so I began searching for a job in Toronto. Near the end of school though, TMC Youth got back to me and lined up an interview with the people at my Bible Lesson. The interview went great and I got the job. By this point, though, I also had received a job offer in Toronto. It seemed like a pretty good opportunity, as well. I turned to prayer because I felt pressured about making the correct decision between the two.
A friend shared an idea from Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy. She writes,
The right way wins the right of way…” (My 232:6)
This concept—that my summer plans were not haphazard, but were definite and divinely governed—was very comforting.
Also, I prayed with some of the ideas about shepherding that I got from a couple of hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal. I got a sense of God leading and governing me and this took away the worry. I dropped my mental pro and con list and quit thinking about what I’d miss out on in the job I chose not to take. I gradually acknowledged that God was in charge, guiding me to whatever would be the best and most harmonious opportunity.
After about a week I made the decision to work for my Bible Lesson and I felt really good about it. I got to Boston and moved into my home for the summer. I met my roommates—who are great—and I started working on Monday. It’s been a great to see God’s governance in action and I’m looking forward to seeing more of it every day.

I don’t get how life isn’t haphazard. It sure seems like chance is a big part of every day life. Can you explain this more?
I don’t really get the quote about the right way being the right of way.
What do you think the best thing about my Bible Lesson is? Is it worth the price?
Hope Boston is going well for you! I might be moving back myself from Raleigh, N.C.
I’ve never seen that quote before- it makes so much sense and it is so great to know that no matter what you do…whatever is right wins over what is wrong.
Hey Jean,
I was thinking about your question, and here’s what I came to so far. Material circumstances are pretty random, and anything can happen. But we are always able to be blessed/have the chance to grow spiritually. It’s this sense of God, or chance to progress in our understanding of God, which is winning the right of way, not the material events going on around us. So maybe a seemingly random/haphazard event really is the right oppotunity to learn something new.
Hope this in some way answers your question- feel free to say no though.
It answers it, but I think I have to think about it more. Thanks Nathan.
I like this:
whatever is right wins over what is wrong.
Hey Anonymous,
i guess the quote for me was a reassurance that there is order and what is right triumphs over bad or “evil”. The rest of the line says “even the way of Truth and Love whereby all our debts are paid, mankind blessed, and God glorified.” Mayeb this helps?
