Ebikiri Aboro

by Ebikiri Aboro

Hi everyone. My name is Ebikiri Aboro, and I am from Nigeria. Presently, I am a computer science student at Principia College, Illinois. This summer I am interning in Boston with TMC Youth as a PHP/MySQL Web developer.

Getting this internship with TMC Youth was an interesting and wonderful experience for me. As a junior in college, I felt the need to do at least one internship before my senior year of college. With this in mind, I started searching for summer internships. I posted my resume on several job finding sites. I also sent it out along with internship applications to several companies.

While I was awaiting responses from the companies I applied to, I received an email from TMC Youth that advertised internship positions for the summer. I browsed through the available positions, found one that suited me, filled out the applications, and submitted them via postage mail. This was about two days to the submission deadline, and I was worried my application would not be received on time. So to be on the safe side, I called TMC Youth, and spoke to the internship coordinator. She told me not to worry; my application would be treated appropriately.

Several days later, I received an email from TMC Youth asking me to propose possible dates for a phone interview. I responded promptly, and waited for the phone interview. My proposed dates passed, and I did not hear from anyone, and I began to worry.

During this period, my phone had developed a problem. I thought I must’ve missed the interview due to my phone situation. I tried to calm myself, and I thought of the story of Jesus calming the storm, and his words kept echoing in my head, “ Peace, be still.” I stopped worrying, and took the initiative again to call the internship coordinator. Another phone interview was scheduled, and it went successfully. During this period, my phone situation had still not improved, but on the day of the interview–for the 50 minutes the interview lasted–it worked without any interruptions. I felt like I was soaring with angels.

I got the internship not by my will, but by the will of God, Love, and today I am writing you from Boston with so much love and gratitude. I am grateful to be in Boston. It is a completely different experience from the little village of Elsah where Principia is located, and I like it. I have had the experience of going to a school of Christian Scientists, and now I have the opportunity of working professionally with Christian Scientists.

I am forever grateful for such an experience, and look forward to the wonderful experiences ahead of me.

Think it’s great that you found your peace and then found your job.

    Great demonstration!

Is it hard being so far from home?

What do you like about Boston?

It is not too hard being away from home, luckily for me I have my brother and sister in the States. I do miss seeing my parents and younger brother often though, and I also miss the atmosphere of home, my friends, the food and all that good stuff.

Issy what I like about Boston is…almost everything is about 5-10mins away, hot but not humid, it is a city compared to the “village” of Elsah (lol), and there are people everywhere, people I don’t know…that might sound ridiculous but trust me it isn’t. Do you still want me to continue?

Nice that you like Boston so well. I live in New Hampshire and I like to visit it.

Congratulations on your internship. It looks like your work on the site is really helping to improve it.
