Roseborn Afi Bonsi

by Roseborn Bonsi

Dumela (Hello), I am Roseborn Afi Bonsi and I’m from Ghana. I was born in Accra, Ghana where I lived with my family until we moved to Botswana in 1992. I am truly blessed to have grown up in two cultures that are totally different, but each beautiful.

Earlier this year I asked God for guidance in my life. I asked Him to be the star in my life daily. One Thursday evening, a career conference was held at Principia College where I attend school. This event was advertised as offering some free pizza so a friend and I decided to go. We were very much aware that a variety of Christian Science organizations would be represented at this fair.

I took several brochures from different organizations and had a conversation with Ariana Herlinger about internship opportunities with The Mother Church in Boston. I knew I wanted something to do this summer that would contribute to the Christian Science movement. But I wanted to be sure this was the path God wanted me to take. That night I went to bed with the thought that divine Love has met and will always meet all my needs. This comes from a statement in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures where Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.”

I decided to apply to be an intern with Sunday School and Local Activities. This was a decision inspired by my life’s passion for working with women and children’s global issues. I believe there is so much we can all learn from children, especially their enthusiasm for life. A few weeks after a telephone interview with the superintendent of the Sunday School in Boston, I received a call that had been accepted as an intern for this summer. As you can imagine, I could not contain my excitement because this was a dream come true. By the end of the school year, I was ready to pack my bags and head out from the small village of Elsah, Illinois to the adventurous and huge city of Boston, Massachusetts.

What excites me most about this internship is that I get to work and interact with people from different and unique cultures around the world. Several countries are represented like Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and different regions in the United States among the interns this summer. We have all come together to serve the Mother Church open-heartedly.

Last week I helped the Local Activities department with their public tours of The Mother Church. It was simply amazing how I traveled around the world during the period that I was there. I met people from Denmark, China, Thailand, Finland, the Netherlands, and all over the United States. I had a conversation with a couple from China who could not speak or understand English, yet somehow we understood each other. This reminded me that the world is made up of many beautiful colors and cultures, and we need to accept and love each other.

All my life, I have always depended on God for my needs and He has never failed me. God knows my needs before I even ask Him. Trusting that my path is always clear has been my greatest strength. I have faith that God will continue to guide me this summer through my internship and interactions with everyone around me. I am sure I will walk away at the end of this summer with experiences that will enhance my spiritual growth. The following words by Mary Baker Eddy always inspire positive thinking whenever I pray to God about my desires:

Dikakanyo disa bolelwang ha di kake tsa itsege mo mogopolong o o boitshepo.Keletso ke tlhapelo, e bile ga re kake ra latlhegelwa ke , ha re tshepa gore modimo o ka bopa a bo a tsholetsa dikeletso tsa rona , pele fa di fetogela mo mafokong le ditiro. (Translated in Setswana; a native language spoken in Botswana).

Thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind. Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds.”

My life after graduation at Principia College has been a testimony that “desire is prayer”. All that i have ever desired in my heart has been fullfilled and still more keep on happening. Roseborn, you are an inspiration and a blessing in my life. Keep the faith and the desire, God always listens.
