Kyle Turner

by Kyle Turner

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy defines Christ as, “The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.” In my search for community in Christ, I’ve loved this idea of God’s manifestation that destroys error, evil, fear, confusion, worry, and grief is the foundation that supports this community. Before I started my internship here at The Mother Church, I felt the environment or community I was living in did not share the same values, didn’t support me and my ideas, and tolerated me instead of respected me. These feelings were some of my motivations to come to The Mother Church—to get away and introduce myself to a community that shared my beliefs and values.

After months of being here and working on this topic, I have realized that God’s manifestation is not socially, geographically, or ideologically bound. This community in Christ I have been looking for is located everywhere because the Christ is located everywhere. There is community in Christ with all of our relationships, not just those with people of our same faith. So, I have found in communicating with friends from home that if I realize that the Christ has already destroyed these false obstacles between me and my community, I can only find harmony. And this is just one of the new freedoms I’ve gained in my internship.
