Tragically, this is my last blog. It’s my last week working as a Legislative Intern at the Committee on Publication. I know everyone says this every summer, but I cannot believe how fast it went. You should have seen me after the first day of this job. I liked it, but I was sure it was going to be a long summer. And now bam, its August.
So for the next two days, I’ll be trying to wrap things up here, juggling the sheer heft of new projects and the rapidly approaching deadlines of old ones, until Thursday at 6:00. Then I catch the train up to New Hampshire to try to squeeze a summers worth of physical and linguistic training into a few weeks. It’s my semi-panicked preparation for a fall semester spent backpacking through Peru.

When I started my internship 12 weeks ago, I was searching for inspiration.
The reason I started my summer “searching for inspiration” was to grow spiritually and to find new motives. I felt that my social and academic lives were unfulfilling and that a change was necessary. Inspiration would be the way to get a new direction, right?
I thought that inspiration would instantaneously come to me, after I became a new person in Boston. I’d forget and leave everything that seemed wrong in my life behind, and start over where no one knew me.
But there’s a flaw in that reasoning. I got this internship based on my passion and devotion to my CSO and I’ll always be expressing those qualities-who I really am never changes.

Last winter break I was in New Jersey visiting family friends. While there, I visited the library in the Tenacre Nursing facility, where I
found a book, “The Gentle Art of Blessing: Lessons for living your spirituality in everyday life” by Pierre Pradervand. I was intrigued by the ideas that were shared by the author and by the testimonies included from people who had previously read the book. I now own a copy of the book.

Paper or plastic? For here or to go? White or wheat? Everywhere I go, I am faced with decisions, and with every decision I am overwhelmed with indecisiveness. But since I came to Boston, I’ve learned that these little decisions of everyday life—while they may seem huge at times—have been easier to make. While I don’t consult God on what kind of bread to use for a sandwich, I do rely on Him for constant guidance. (more…)

It took sometime, but now I can now officially say I am falling in love with the city of Boston.
Hence the Swahili title of my blog today: The good life in Boston. Four weeks ago, I was hesitant about whether I was in my right place. After some prayer, a sprinkle of openness, and a dash of spontaneity I was cured of my hesitation and finally began to enjoy the city, my new friends, and my internship. (more…)

Hey. So, I’ve been here in Boston for about 5 weeks now working at my Bible Lesson and it’s been great. I love the people and the experience I’m getting from working with them and from what I am doing each day.
One thing that I’ve noticed and really appreciate is how the people I work with act and how their actions really express the idea of the whole man. Not only do they take on a huge variety of jobs, but they also express a wide range of qualities. They are very professional and demanding in what they expect of themselves and others, but they are also really funny and friendly. (more…)
