We traveled to Lake Atitlan this week. We rented a house there to use as our home base. It’s said that Lake Atitlan was described by writer Aldous Huxley as the most beautiful lake in the world. And it sure is beautiful! Located 7,000 feet above sea level, the lake is surrounded by three 10,000 foot volcanoes.
The two hour shuttle ride to the lake from Antigua was so enjoyable even though it winds through steep mountain terrain. There were people on the shuttle from all over the world, each happy to share his or her experiences and tales. For us, it was a perfect example of how universal God’s love is and the wide variety of ways we can celebrate each other.
It’s also amazing how free travelers are to become instant friends. Perhaps it’s because every moment here is new and refreshing. It’s spurring us to think about how we can bring more expectation of adventure and openness back home with us. Just as many exciting and new opportunities exist wherever we are, but we just need to be open to the possibilities, to make new friends and see new perspectives. And we’re seeing that it’s really a childlike attitude that does it. Many of the travelers we’ve met are college students.
Many of them work for international organizations aiding Guatemala. The students kept saying how cool it was to meet young kids traveling in Guatemala. That helped encourage Camille and Holland through the tough parts of the trip. For example, just around Lake Atitlan, there’s poverty, displaced people from Hurricane Stan, and a lack of resources for education. Yet at the same time, there are organizations from all over the world working to help solve these problems. For Rachel, these international workers are a concrete example of how Love meets everyone’s human need. It was also fun talking to the students about how prayer is helpful for finding right solutions for the world’s problems.
After visiting our house for a few days, we decided to take a side trip, which meant traveling the winding road out of the mountains again. Just as we were about to get on the shuttle ride, Camille became very sick and was suddenly unable to walk or stand up. The Bible Lesson that week was “God, the only Cause and Creator.” With only 10 minutes before the shuttle was to leave, Camille and Mom took a few minutes to be grateful for Christian Science.
Mom asked Camille if she wanted to get a hotel room and take the shuttle the next day. But Camille wanted to leave as planned. As Camille lay quietly on a bench, each of us was in awe that we already had all the ideas needed to unravel the picture of illness.
We had all read the Bible Lesson together that morning and had talked about God, Spirit being the only cause—the cause of good only. Since God gave us the spiritual “food” or ideas in the Bible Lesson, as His spiritual creation we each had the ability to absorb those ideas and make use of them in a peaceful, healing, and harmonious way. By the time the shuttle came, Camille was up and ready for the exciting, but winding, mountain trip. We’d all been fed by those spiritual ideas! And Camille was completely healed.

thanks Stuart!! Great to hear from you. It was a fun trip. I”m glad you liked the post
I just got back from Camp
Me also I already tried out divine protection during a 3 hours and 30 minutes flight. Since Kinshasa towards kindu, in the province of maniema, in democratic republic of Congo. I make this flight in airfreighter, a plane planned for the goods, but our tickets had taken another target and we were to oblige me and my colleagues to travel by this cargo liner. The divine love was my support, until the landing we were always under divine protection in spite of the deplorable state of this plane.
thank you for telling your story. It’s wonderful how diving Love is supporting all of us everywhere in the world.
What a fun trip! Thanks for sharing.
