Passport

by Steven Cramer

It’s something you need when you travel to any country. It’s proof of your national identity. It gives you a right of passage. In a way, it gives you a purpose for being where you are. It’s your passport.

I know the practical importance of having a passport when traveling, but lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what that document really represents. Is it just something that is used when exploring foreign regions, or can we have a sense of identity, a right of passage, and a purpose no matter where we are?

This line of reasoning has led me to a concept I like to call “God’s passport.” This is a passport that you can use in everything that you do—in school, jobs, relationships, and yes, even when you travel! It’s a really useful passport that you can use all the time!

Let’s think about the idea of God’s passport a little bit more. This passport is issued by God and is given freely to all of His children. Each passport is unique and confirms the holder’s true link with God.

If you have ever opened up a government-issued passport, there are generally some words in the front cover. I think that in God’s passport, these words might be: “God asks all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer, a child of God, to pass freely without hindrance, and to afford him or her, every assistance and protection of which he or she, may stand in need.”

What a lovely thought!

For me, the nationality of this passport is “Christian Science.” That’s not just a religious denomination, but the explanation of the laws of God—divine laws that bless every one of us.

So, our role is to carry this “document” everywhere we go. As we do this, we continue to understand how we are the children of God, and how this Father-Mother God is always caring for us in everything we do. And what’s great is that this is done all the time, and wherever we are.

I think it’s important for us to all know that we have our own “God-supplied passport,” which is current and ready for use.  There is no point having your passport sit in the cupboard. Right now, you can put into practice what you know about God and how She protects and loves Her children at all times.

Great spiritual concept of what our “true” passport represents! Thank you for sharing it. I’m going to forward it to the group leader of an overseas trip I am going on in May
