Lizzie

by Lizzie Witney

Hi my name’s Lizzie and I’m 15 years old. I come from England, however I’m starting a new life in India. When my dad told me that his work had given him the opportunity to relocate him and his family to India to live for a couple of years, I was so excited. I thought it was a really awesome idea.

Two months later after some careful thinking and concluding that this was God’s plan for us, we were in India for a look-see visit. We visited the schools, the apartments, shopping centres, etc., We saw everything we needed to see before we came to live here the following month.

I have to admit excitement wasn’t the only feeling I was having about our upcoming move to India; I was extremely nervous about moving to a new culture, and also sad about having to leave my friends. The ideas that I have discovered through my study of Christian Science have helped me with these challenges quite a lot. My mum reminded me that the qualities that I love so much about my friends can be found anywhere because the qualities come from God who is everywhere. This thought offered me comfort because I realised that no matter where I was, I am still able to find people who are kind and loving. I also came across a hymn in The Christian Science Hymnal which says

In heavenly Love abiding, No change my heart shall fear…. (No. 148)

I thought about this hymn before when I had previously been moving schools and it helped me to realise that wherever I am, God’s keeping me safe. On the morning of departure, I was really excited about my journey to India, I knew that I would be able to make new friends, and no matter where I was God would be there too.

Since arriving in India I’ve had a great time, the weather has been gorgeously warm. We recently joined a local club which has a really beautiful outdoor swimming pool which I love to sunbathe by. I also enjoy going shopping in the big malls near where I am staying. I was suprised to see how many Western brands they have out here. But the culture and way of life is so different than in England, this is one of the reasons why India for me is such an interesting place.

I can’t wait to start my new school, however I’m also really glad it’s the holidays so I can do lots of shopping and swimming!

    Hi!
I think that’s awesome that you get to go live in India! YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LUCKY! I was about to have the same expirence, my dad was almost going to be transfered to India before I was born, so I would have lived in India. You are REALLY brave to be going to live in a totally different atmosphere. I would be super scared, but like you, I would know that God is everywhere. Thanks for telling me about your cool adventure. See ya!
