Hi, my name is Susie Rynerson and I am a Christian Science Practitioner living in the south of Spain. How did I get here? Well, to make a long story short, God is amazing and always has a larger and better plan than we do.

The summer of 2004, I was as wonderfully content. I was living in Boston, where I had attended college and grad school, lived, worked and played sports and music more years than anywhere else. I had established my practice over the past five years. I was volunteering in my church and community; I had many friends and was involved in multiple leisure activities I enjoyed. Practically every week I was saying,

I love my life, wow, God you are so great for unfolding this!!

I could have stayed like that indefinitely, but looking ahead I saw I would have a quieter contemplative period starting in September and a couple volunteer projects would end in January. God had cleared my schedule before I entered the practice, so I knew a change was coming. I knew it would be large and related to Christian Science. I asked God about it and the answers that came were that I should live life to the fullest and trust that everything would be a natural continuation of that.

In October, I went to my association meeting in England. Having just started learning Spanish, I thought it would be fun to go to Spain to practice a little before going home. Five days into the vacation, God revealed the change: I was supposed to move to Spain, where I knew only two people: a married couple I had only just gotten to know.

Whoah!!! What a shock!! So many times I thought, I can’t do it! But I was incessantly reminded of David and Goliath. God had saved David from the lion and bear when he was a shepherd, so David knew God would save him from Goliath too. God had already shown me how He could overcome smaller logistic, economic, social, language, skill, health and fear barriers, so was assured I could trust Him to remove the ones that loomed much larger in the move. It became all about God and

What cannot God do?

I arrived in Spain in February 2005. Fast forward to now, May of 2006. Every barrier has been broken. Again, my life, practice, church, language, learning, friends, sports, volunteering, etc. are all well established. Not only have I kept much of what I had in the US and developed more here in the region of Malaga, but my activities and friendships now extend to Madrid and other parts of Europe!!

To top it all off, last month my parents visited, they said I look great and we had a fantastic time together. All I can say is, I think I’m hearing an echo:

I love my life - wow, God you’re so great for unfolding this!

I just got back from studying in Peru, and I’m interested in living there after I graduate from college–if it’s right. I liked how your article made me think that God is always providing a way for me and the means to accomplish whatever the way may be (whether it’s providing money, education, knowlege of a language or whatever). God is my Mind, and I have the capacity to listen to Him for direction! Thanks for the reminder!

    Sounds great to me!
