» Rejoice in perfect God and perfect man. Cherish the majesty and might of God and the dignity and soundness of God’s spiritual idea, man. (See Science and Health, p. 259.)
» Erase the fear of the patient as well as your own anxiety. God is Love and knows how to control and care for all His spiritual creation. Man is exempt from disease and danger. Delight in these facts. (See Science and Health, p. 411.)

It was the first sunny, dry day in weeks, so I took the cordless phone out to the deck to settle into my Adirondacks chair and listen to my friend. She really needed to talk about a relationship problem she was having. Just as I sat down, a bee flew directly into the corner of my eye and stung me. I was startled, and the pain was excruciating. Right away, I turned my attention to God, expecting from past experience that the fear I felt welling up in me would dissolve under the influence of all-powerful Love.

Jesus was teaching in a meeting place on a Sunday. He saw a woman who had been twisted and bent over with arthritis for eighteen years. He called her over and said. “Woman, you’re free!” He then touched her. And suddenly she was healed. She stood up straight, and gave glory to God (see Luke 13).
My goal is to heal like that all the time so I’ve been thinking about how I can utilize the Christ, God’s healing presence and power, to untie myself and others from unrelieved trouble. And I was inspired to examine just what really lasts and is persistent. Oh, some physical, financial, and even relationship problems seem to last and last. But I’m finding that instead of the error being unceasing, it is God and His goodness that are eternal!

Do we ever think that the nails in Jesus’ hands and feet were not as sharp as our painful experiences? Jesus demonstrated that every sharp jab of error, every thrust of hate was never sent by God, so it’s never true, never real. And if it is unreal, why then, make what seems to be our pain so real by insisting that it’s ours?
Were Daniel’s lions not as real as our aches and pains and that’s why Daniel had mastery over them? Was the fiery furnace not as hot as what we claim our lack and disappointments are? Was the serpent that hung from Paul’s arm not as deadly as our diseases and fears?
I’m learning in Christian Science that we can be delivered, set free from all evil. No matter how real out trials seem, we can be liberated from the belief that they were ever created, formed, and experienced as we daily watch and pray.

They were hiding. I asked for a hint.
“10th deck!”
My wife Joanne, and I started running. With walkie-talkie in hand, I called for another hint. Through the crackle, I heard, “Elevator!”
We raced up the stairs to the top deck. Just as we reached it, huffing and puffing, the elevator was closing. However, I caught a glimpse of two pairs of tennis shoes.
Joanne stayed put to grab them if they came back. I raced down the stairs . . . 9th deck . . . 8th deck . . . 5th . . . 2nd . . . where the elevator stopped.

I was in the woods, cold, pacing back and forth, squinting at 3×5 cards in the moonlight.
I had to familiarize myself with an hour-long speech-a speech about God and prayer. I could remember half the talk, but the rest just wouldn’t stick.
I was in the woods because I was chaperoning my stepson’s Boy Scout campout. I had only two days to get the speech down, so it had to come on the trip with us. I was bordering on the frantic. The boys were supposed to be in their tents, sleeping. But there was Aaron. (more…)

How does God help you out of trouble if the divine Mind doesn’t know anything about the problem you’re facing?
One of the basic premises of Christian Science is that God, Mind is all. Since God is pure spiritual goodness and knows nothing of sin, disease, death, and matter, how can the heavenly wisdom be aware of my very material debt, strife, or illness and deliver me from it?
I’ve thought about this question over the years and have come to the conclusion that God doesn’t need to know about our suffering to help us. Just as the sun destroys darkness by being a brilliant shining orb, God destroys evil by being omnipresent all-powerful Love. (more…)

We traveled to Lake Atitlan this week. We rented a house there to use as our home base. It’s said that Lake Atitlan was described by writer Aldous Huxley as the most beautiful lake in the world. And it sure is beautiful! Located 7,000 feet above sea level, the lake is surrounded by three 10,000 foot volcanoes.
The two hour shuttle ride to the lake from Antigua was so enjoyable even though it winds through steep mountain terrain. There were people on the shuttle from all over the world, each happy to share his or her experiences and tales. For us, it was a perfect example of how universal God’s love is and the wide variety of ways we can celebrate each other. (more…)

Hi, my name’s Bobby. I come from Hampshire, England and I’m age 13. I live with my parents, Penny and John Witney, and my sister Lizzie, she is 15 years old. We are all Christian Scientists. Mum is a Christian Science practitioner and Dad is a businessman.
Recently the opportunity for us to live in India for a couple of years has come to light. Our family has been moved over here by the company where my dad works. This has been a wonderful experience and we’ve had a great time so far. But there are a few challenges we have needed to face and we are overcoming these challenges by turning to God. (more…)

I’ve been thinking a lot about heritage. It was something my Dad and I talked about before I left for 3.5 months. He told me
Remember Julie, who your real Father Mother is. Know that now, in the next few months, and forever, your heritage is pure and untouchable. Remember where your real heritage comes from.
It turns out that the day after I flew into Madagascar’s capital I got to see the very same idea in that day’s section of the Lesson on Man. Psalms 16:6, the third marker, was “Yea, I have a goodly heritage.” Seeing this Life around me - I often find myself if not actually moving my lips in silent murmuring, repeating the idea in my head – we are of Godly heritage!
