(more…)

On Tuesday October the 13th, our last night in Chile, Susie gave her first Spanish youth lecture in the Santiago Park Plaza hotel. As a spirited group of more than 70 people mingled and found seats, two Sunday school students played violin and guitar. Following a warm introduction by a church member, Susie launched into the topic, “Adventures in the Good Life” or “Aventuras en la Buena Vida.” The audience readily engaged with the questions Susie asked and the opportunities for interactivity. Following the lecture, many asked questions and told us they were grateful for the simple, clear, and practical message of Christian Science. Half of those who attended were not church members, several newcomers came because of ads in the local paper, and fourteen copies of Science of Health were sold.

I wanted to visit an orphanage in Africa

Michele

by Michele Tyler

It was a long trip from Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo to Boma, downriver towards the coast about 300 kilometers. We arrived in Boma by night, after a “6 hour trip” which actually took 12 hours. The very uncomfortable bus had been flying all day long on what passes in this part of Africa for a major highway. But no complaints, on the contrary, Congolese facilitators and a mostly U.S. team of TMC Youth had linked so well that we finished our trip in the middle of laughter, jokes, songs, and general high spirits.

A transforming day

pedro-nurseby Pedro Manzenza

I am Christian Science nurse and I traveled to Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo with the TMC Youth team for the recent Summits.

After the Cameroon Summit we went to Boma in the DRC where we had a Summit on Saturday. One of our group, a Christian Science practitioner, was really interested in visiting an orphanage. I was interested in visiting, too. (more…)

Climbing Spiritual Summits in Nepal

NathanielChristian Science Sentinel, July 21 and 28, 2008

While touring Asia a couple of years ago, my brother, Forrest, and I embarked on a trek that would carry us to a mountain base camp high in the Annapurna Mountains of central Nepal.

The altitude gain, and particularly fears about altitude sickness, was something that had preoccupied my thought days before we’d begun the trek. And now, walking up smooth, stone stairways through the subtropical mountain landscape, I was tempted to carefully monitor our gain—even converting meters to feet to keep perspective.

Overcoming Fear in Pakistan

Day 9: Loving and Learning at the Ngochoni Petals of Africa School

Kenya

Day 9:

Now that we have left Petals School our working adventure has come to an end. Although it was really hard to leave, as we began our safari we were amazed by the wildlife. We saw any and every African animal you can imagine, except for the rhino, and they were so close! It was a perfect ending to an incredible beginning. We have already begun to plan our trip back, and we look forward to the continuation of our sisterhood.

“Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity”

Rainbow

by Michael Morgan

After three days of trekking through the Himalayas, I developed a sharp pain in my knee. After nine hours of walking in the pouring rain, carefully dodging, and many times slipping on, steep wet rocks, we finally began to descend into the small village where we would be staying. Due to space efficiency I had left my Science and Health back at the hotel in Kathmandu and only had my Bible Lesson. On returning to the hotel I struggled, trying to steer my thoughts away from the pain and onto the beautiful surroundings: Soul manifested.
