Friendship issues? Prayer Works…

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Lauren Hayden

Lauren Hayden - Christian Science Sentinel, August 27, 2007

Last year at middle school, it felt as if I didn’t have a good group of friends I fit in with. The friends I’d known since kindergarten were growing apart. Some of them were only focused on schoolwork, some were ignoring me, and some were making new friends.

Keelor

by Christian Keelor - The Christian Science Journal, June, 2007

A few months after the school year started at my boarding school, I had an ear problem. One night I noticed a buzzing of some sort in my left ear when I went to sleep. It had been hurting for a while whenever I was talking, running, wrestling, and even sleeping, but I mostly ignored it. That night the noise in my ear got annoying.

God is big

Noelle - Adapted from the Christian Science Sentinel, Oct. 16, 2006

It was my junior year of high school, and one day I felt overwhelmed trying to prepare for three major tests at the same time.

I decided to study for the test in my honors US history class first. This was not the best choice, because I knew I would struggle much more for my chemistry test than for history. But I pushed this thought aside and waited until the last minute to study for chemistry. When the time came to study for chemistry, I felt I would not understand the material, so I just gave up and decided to go to bed.

Exams Are Approaching

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Jonathan B.Jonathan B. - “Exams/papers/DOMINION!” part 2 (or “Exam Time”) has been reprinted from the Christian Science Sentinel, Jan. 15–22, 2006

Wasn’t sure which forum to post this in—but here it is: I was wondering if y’all would want to bounce ideas around on how to prepare spiritually for exams. Historically, I have found this time of year (now until mid-December) extremely stressful. The human picture—very little time to pack a lot of information into the grey matter in my head. Of course—in the divine sense, God supplies the answer to every question and need. For me, exams are exhausting and frightening. I know they don’t need to be—and any advice or spiritual inspirations would be greatly appreciated! (more…)

CynthiaCynthia - Adapted from The Christian Science Journal, February 2007

I grew up with my parents’ religion, but it wasn’t for me. So when I was 13, I began going on my own to some other churches. But they didn’t satisfy me either, and I continued searching. I wanted to find a place where God is only good, not good and evil. In the churches I attended, they said that if you didn’t obey certain rules, you would go to hell. That didn’t seem right or loving. (more…)

Take Action

Quentin The Christian Science Journal, Nov. 2006

Last year toward the end of seventh grade, a group of boys my age and younger created a rumor about me suggesting I did something very embarrassing in sixth grade. There were so many reasons why the rumor was ridiculous. But the boys thought it was amusing.

Things started to get out of hand pretty quickly, and more and more people started to make fun of me when they saw me. (more…)

Test Taking
The Christian Science Journal Sept. 2006

Throughout high school, the most dreaded days of school were the ones when I had to take tests. I’d always been good at taking them until I reached high school, when, for some unknown reason, I became stressed out before tests—gripped by the fear that I wouldn’t know the answers and would fail. Afterward, I would feel frustrated when I didn’t get the grade I wanted after I’d studied so hard.I have attended a Christian Science Sunday School since I was a little girl and have learned that God is Mind and that this divine intelligence guides and governs us always. I’ve also learned that I am God’s loved child and express all of His qualities. Still, I couldn’t seem to get rid of the fear that surrounded test taking.

The situation got even worse my junior year as I began preparing for the Advanced Placement test. (more…)

Prayer Rewards

The Christian Science Sentinel May 15, 2006

Like many teenagers, Mark Evans has nonstop days. He’s an Eagle Scout, captain of his school’s academic team, a trombone player in the marching band, an athlete, and a straight-A student preparing for college next year. For fun? Video games, running on the beach, and hanging with his friends.

But despite his busy schedule, Mark makes time for prayer and studying Christian Science—a discipline he’s found to be key in his life. Mark took the time to chat with the Sentinel’s Ingrid Peschke about this on a recent Sunday afternoon. (more…)

God was with me at boarding school

(and is with me today)
By Bemis Akelo Ambugo
This article first appeared on www.spirituality.com.

I was sent to a boarding school when I was five. The school was about two hours away from my hometown in Suna Migori, Kenya. I transferred from a small preschool, just walking distance from home, to a new school with 480 students. It seemed pretty big and impersonal at first, and the adjustment was not easy. I was very young, and I was also immensely shy in those days. (more…)

Running on Wings by Spencer Keel

Spencer Keel - Christian Science Sentinel, Aug. 21, 2006

For as long as I can remember, since first joining a running club when I was 11, this is what a Christian Science practitioner has been telling me. Now I’m 16, and to me relaxing and running on the wings of angels means the run will be easy, fast, free of pain or obstacles-that I’ll be free to express God’s goodness and power. And with the wings of God’s angels holding me up, I cannot possibly fall.

Last year, right after my freshman year in high school, I competed in an 800-meter race at the state meet for Junior Olympics Track and Field in Georgia. During track season, just a month before, I’d run the 800 in two minutes and 23 seconds. That wasn’t a bad time for a freshman, but I’d hoped to do better this time and maybe shave off two or three seconds. It felt like another opportunity to prove the all-power of God. (more…)
